B150-GTX Bluetooth Microphone - Set-up and Use

Although capable of providing excellent results with speech recognition, there is no microphone that is returned to us more often the than the VXI B150-GTX Bluetooth microphone. In almost all cases in which dissatisfaction occurs it results from failure to adequate set up the microphone and understand it use. We provide this additional information to improve your experience with this excellent microphone.

Before attempting to use the microphone be sure it has been charged for a full 12 hours!

Overview of Process

  • If you are using a laptop with integrated bluetooth, be sure it is enabled.
  • If you will be using an external bluetooth device plugged into your computer (such as the Anycom Bluetooth Adapter) install it per supplied instructions
  • Be sure your microphone is fully charged
  • Pair your microphone with your PC
  • Once your microphone is paired and an active connection is assured, open Dragon NaturallySpeaking and start a new user, selecting "bluetooth microphone" as the input device.
  • Proceed with training of NaturallySpeaking

Setting up (pairing) the B150-GTX with your bluetooth equipped computer:

Windows XP:

Open Control Panel > Bluetooth Devices

On the bottom left of the Bluetooth devices window select "Add". This will open the "Add Bluetooth Devices Wizzard".

bluetooth

Start with headset turned off. If the large yellow multifunction button is flashing yellow, this means it's on standby. Turn it off by pressing and holding the multifunction button for at least 3 seconds. You will hear descending tones indicating that it is being turned off and the flashing will cease.

With the microphone within 3 ft of your pc, press and hold the large mutifunction button 5-10 seconds until you see alternating red and yellow lights. This indicates it is in the pairing mode.

On the Add Bluetooth Wizzard check the "My Device is set up and ready to be found" and click "Next".

bluetooth

After a brief pause, you will see "BTHS" as an option. Select this and click next. Ultimately you will need to select your BTHS (bluetooth headset) and right click and select "connect".

bluetooth

Select "Use the Passkey provided in the documentation", add "0000" (four zeros) and then click next. After the pairing is complete, click "Finish"

Windows VISTA: Setting up this microphone with Windows Vista is potentially difficult and the exact method depends upon the details of the bluetooth stacks included with your Vista machine by the hardware manufacturer. Be advised that we get more returns of this microphone from users attempting to use it with Vista than any other set-up. Please be advised!

Setting Up Dragon NaturallySpeaking with the B150-GTX:

Create a new user (Tools > Manage User > New)

On the initial new user set-up screen select "Bluetooth Microphone" as the Dictation Source

bluetooth setup

Use Dragon as you would with any microphone, using the multifunction button to be sure the microphone is Talk Mode (yellow light flashing about once per second)

Review of the Controls on the B150-GTX

Multifunction Button:

  • When the Microphone is removed from the charger, it is automatically in the "standby mode" and this is signaled by a yellow flash of the multifunction button every 3 seconds or so.
  • A single press of the multifunction button puts the microphone in the "talk" mode and this is evidenced by the multifunction button flashing once per second.
  • An addition single (1 second) push of the multifunction button will place the microphone back in the standby mode which conserves power
  • Pressing and holding the multifunction button for about 3 second will turn the micropone off
  • The mutifunction button is used the initiate pairing. In this situation you must start with the headset turned off (see above) and then press the multifunction button 5-10 seconds until it starts flashing alternately yellow and red.

Volume Up Button:

Pressing this once increases the volumne

Pressing and holding the volume up botton for 4 seconds leads to the headset volume being muting and this is indicated by a tone which will continue periodically. Pressing and holding the volume up button for another 4 seconds will un-mute the microphone.

For information on the use of this microphone with cellphones and other devices, please refer to the literature included with the microphone (also viewable through VXI at: VXI Support:Manuals.)
