iPad Stylus
Although the iPad (and iPhone & iPod) have touch screens designed for control with a finger, there are a number of users that find the use of a stylus a preferred (or required) means of interacting with their device. In a number of situations, the use of a stylus may be mandatory, including:
- long fingernails
- large fingers
- field use in which fingers are unusually dirty and may scratch the screen
- assessibility situations in which finger dexterity is compromised
Be aware that the Apple touchscreen is not activated with pressure and the type of blunt stylus used with some other devices are not only ineffective, but might actually scratch or damage your device. Apple touchscreens use what is called a "capacitance" technology and actually senses the ability of a human touch to alter the electrical charge maintained within a grid structure within the touchscreen. Because it is the effect of human touch to alter this current, a suitable stylus must be made of a conducting material and be connected to you. Be aware, though, that no stylus has the sensitivity of the human finger while interacting with the iPad or iPhone. Each requires a bit more pressure than simply laying a finger on the screen.
POGO SKETCH

Comments: This product was created by Ten One Design and is our favorite in terms of design. It has a rounded soft tip. Keep in mind that this stylus, like any, require a slight amount more pressure than when using a finger. You may order this in either the silver or pink color. These devices are also compatible with the iPhone.

RADTECH STYLOID

Comments: This is a simple and functional stylus which works well with both the iPad and iPhone. The tip material slides very easily on the touchscreen. Because the tip is somewhat flattened, this device works best when positioned vertically during use (not held at a significant angle).

GENERIC STYLUS

Comments: this stylus is imported from China and is a bit less expensive. In terms of function, the tip is more of a rubbery material. It doesn't slide particularly easily on the iPad screen so this stylus is not as well suited for sweeping motions across the screen but rather pushing of keys on the virtually keyboard, activating applications, etc.
